Session 1
Jamming & Groove Play
Session 1 is exactly what it sounds like. Jamming and playing in the groove. Become a rhythm section of your own. Build your rhythmic integrity and build your skills at filling out a groove on your own, or in a group. We’ll learn two folk tunes and how to jam on them. Learn to recognize guitar and ukulele chords. Improvise over basic chord changes. Play those chord changes. Use your bow like you're strumming a guitar or playing a drum kit.

Morning session to focus on concepts and learning tunes.
Afternoon will apply concepts and develop skills around the tunes, then jam.
Time permitting: more tunes and tools

Session 2
Blues & Improvisation
In Session 2 we’ll learn all about the blues. Some history, a good bit of theory, and how to sound like the blues. We'll learn two blues melodies, their chords, and basslines. Learn how to find a harmony part, a bassline, a rhythmic groove. Learn swing bowing, blues scales, and blues rhythms. Make your melodic improv sound “bluesy.”

Session 3
Singer-Songwriter (Lead & Accompany)
In Session 3 we’ll develop skills for singing and playing. We'll also learn how to accompany a singer-songwriter. These are different skill sets with a ton of overlap. These skills are so powerful!
In Session 3, we'll learn two songs, their melodies & lyrics, their chords, and basslines. How to find a harmony part, a bassline, a rhythmic groove. How to accompany yourself well while singing (playing a stringed instrument.) How to accompany someone else well while they’re singing (and playing guitar, uke, etc.) Learn to recognize guitar and ukulele chords. Learn to read a leadsheet or chord chart. How to find/create a great string part.
